First Newsletter!Hi, everyone! Thanks for signing up for my newsletter. This is the first one, so if something looks off, let me know, okay? The plan is to write these whenever the moon's full, and that was last night, so it's time for... a Moon Letter. (It's a Tolkien reference. iykyk) Current PhaseI have a story in the latest issue of Flash Fiction Online! It's called "Rice Child, Dragon Child" and it's about a guy who steals and resells dreams. It goes live for free on January 20 (I'll link it!) but the whole issue is available for purchase now: Flash Fiction Online January 2026: The Regret Issue (If you do grab the issue, be sure to read "The Memory Swap" by Cressida Roe, because it messed me up.) In other news, here's a snippet from the Viper revision:
“Oh,” I said. My voice cracked. A Halla-marked creature. A Halla-marked salmusa— it was a salmusa, I recognized the shape of its head, just like Noodle’s. As if Halla had taken the two halves of Noodle’s broken body and remade him, perfect and shining. My eyes stung, and the shine on the snake’s scales melted and bloomed into a golden halo.
I've been over this book so many times it all feels stale, but this part felt fresh. I moved this plot arc to the beginning of the book, so now the protagonist encounters the miraculous snake much sooner, only a few weeks after losing her beloved pet snake Noodle. I'd forgotten about it, but she hadn't. I think I have two or three scenes left in this section of the book, and then I can move on to patching the hole in the middle of the book, which I created when I ripped this plot arc out. Looking AheadI did a lot last year-- revised Viper, sent it to beta readers, and started revising again; wrote four short stories (sold two); revamped my website; got active on Bluesky. In hindsight it was too much for this season of my life. I feel burned to a stub. This year, my resolution is to do less author-career work and to spend a little more time refilling the well (reading, playing, letting ideas percolate). My goals are still there-- finish Viper and send it out to agents, revise and resubmit my two unsold short stories, maybe apply to Clarion West like a maniac-- but they're taking a back seat for now. It's a new approach for me. Let's see what happens.
