Behind the Scenes

I originally wrote this story for Writing Battle in April 2025. It was my first attempt at flash fiction, and the first draft came out to a hefty 3,000 words. Cutting it down was less about trimming words, and more about taking a step back to identify the single moment that the story was about. The second draft was a more reasonable 1,200 words, which I polished to a svelte 994. It didn't win, but the contest feedback showed me where I needed to revise, and FFO snapped it up.
